Environmental Protection
Reforestation of 5 acres at Gautier, Jean-Rabel.
A Group Vision Marien nursery. Acacia, Mahogany,
fruit and other plantlets are produced here before
transplant to other needy areas.
These are some of the participants in "Adopt a Tree
Program sponsored by GVM
This gentleman on the horse also is a technician
with advanced experience in nursery
management and plantlets transplant
Dr. Phillip, accompanied by three other members
of a U.S-based delegation, is conducting a
training session on environmental issues for
farmers in Gauthier, Jean-Rabel in February
2000.
An agricultural technician is giving a helping hand
to a farmer at a nursery where plantlets were
produced for Group Vision Marien Reforestation
Project. Numerous lemon and orange plantlets
are being produced in Group Vision Marien
Nursery.
Education
Education is one of our main focuses. In 2004 we provided 30 boxes of Math, Science, French, Spanish,
and English textbooks to the Principal of Lycée Wilfrid Sainvil in Cabaret, Jean-Rabel.
We also provided 20 boxes of Math textbooks to Lycée Tertulien-Guilbaud in Port-de-Paix, and 100 boxes
of Math, Science, Social Studies, and Geography to Sunlight, a missionary school located at Nan Chalet,
Port-de-Paix.
The pictures were taken at the high school of Cabaret: it depicts a great example of the financial need in
that facility.
Social and Economic Development
Our annual picnic held by Group Vision Marien
on Memorial Day at T.Y. Park in Hollywood,
Florida
The delegation from the U.S. made a stop at the
beach of Port-de-Leon and Group Vision Marien are
planning to restore this site for eco-tourism.

So far, GROUP Vision Marien has played a crucial role as a counterpart in the reforestation project
initiated and carried out by 12 farmers in the community of Gauthier, East of Jean-Rabel. Based on
previous knowledge of the environment, the farmers have selected several species suitable to the
reforestation of the area.
Several nurseries were established in 2001 to produce larger number plantlets like: lemon, orange,
mango, Campeche, acacia, avocado, Poinciana (flamboyant), acajou, Oak, etc… Sessions of
transplantation were organized, at each rainy season, by the farmers to reclaim the 5 acres previously
affected by erosion and excessive soil degradation. Group Vision Marien provided supervision and
financial assistance to the production and transplant of those 10.000 plantlet plantlets in which 80%
survive the process. The project cost which is around $15,000 was financed entirely by GVM.
Our next step will be to build an environmental education center that will serve as a tourist attraction
site. This center will be associated with a park where several species of native animals and plants will
be conserved. We expect such a project to have a huge cultural and economic impact on the
community of Gauthier as well as on the entire Northwestern region of Haiti.
